Centre for Ageing Better: Developing group coaching support for redundancy
The Challenge
Statistics show that redundancy is particularly damaging for older workers, with over 50s generally having greater difficulty getting a new job following redundancy and more likely to fall into long-term unemployment.
Centre for Ageing Better wanted to learn what works in supporting people 50+ who have been made redundant return to fulfilling work.
My role
My role was to test and evaluate a group coaching prototype with over 50s who had been made redudant, to make sure it was pilot ready.
What I did
Recruited people aged over 50 who had recently been made redundant from the manufacturing industry in the West Midlands.
Set up two different group coaching prototypes to test programme components such as group size, length and time of sessions, coaching style.
Observed and took notes across the group sessions to support the analysis of the programme.
Interviewed participants and coaches to better understand what worked, didn’t work and how it could be improved..
Wrote and presented insights to the Centre for Ageing Better team.
Worked with a service designer to adapt support based on findings, and develop a programme blueprint and guidance.
